Inside the article National politics and Patriotism in Education, Joel Westheimer made a clear distinction of what it means to adhere to " authoritarian patriotism” and " democratic patriotism. ” The author identifies authoritarian patriotism as the fact that one's nation is inherently superior to other folks and nonquestioning loyalty to ones nation, leaders and support them unconditionally. On the opposing area Westheimer specifies democratic patriotism as the fact that a country's ideals are worthy of esteem and love and the wondering deliberative overall care for those of society based on particular principles. Westheimer felt the necessity to clarify the distinction from the two kinds of patriotism since it seems like patriotism can be beginning to be forced upon the folks and mostly the students, and if people actually second imagine the government's decisions they will be condemned by his or her colleagues and fellow workers.
