Something is amiss in Denmark -- for two successive nights, the midnight safeguard has observed the appearance of the ghost of Old Hamlet, the former King of Denmark who has lately died. The guards take Horatio, a learned scholar and friend of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, to witness this kind of apparition. Even though skeptical at first, Horatio views the ghost and determines to survey its appearance to Hamlet.
Meanwhile, a new king of Denmark continues to be crowned: Claudius, Old Hamlet's brother. Claudius has taken Old Hamlet's widow, Gertrude, as his wife. All of us watch their particular marriage celebration and learn about a threat from the Knight in shining armor of Norway, Fortinbras, which Claudius deals with to avoid by diplomacy. Hamlet is in attendance at this marriage celebration; he is hardly in joyous spirits, however. He is disgusted by his single mother's decision to marry Claudius so soon after his dad's demise. Horatio tells Hamlet of the presence of the ghost and Hamlet determines to visit the heart himself.
In the meantime, the court adviser, Polonius, sends his son, Laertes, back to Paris, france, where he is living. Laertes and Polonius both problem Ophelia (sister and little girl, respectively) about her romance with Hamlet. Ophelia confesses that Hamlet has been wooing her. They tell her to avoid Hamlet and reject his amorous advancements, emphasizing the value of safeguarding her chastity. Ophelia confirms to cut off contact.
In the evening, Hamlet occurs with the watch. The ghost looks once more. Hamlet questions the ghost, who have beckons Hamlet away from the others. When they are exclusively, the ghost reveals that Claudius killed him in order to steal his crown great wife. The ghost makes Hamlet assurance to take revenge on Claudius. Hamlet seems to concur excitedly. He features Horatio plus the guards vow not to reveal what they have observed.
